Product Carbon
Footprint FAQ

Q.

A.

When evaluating the environmental impact of products through their carbon footprint reports, it's crucial to approach these reports with caution. The primary reason is the inherent variability and complexity in the methodologies and assumptions used in calculating these footprints.

Different reports may consider various lifecycle stages, energy mixes, and usage and distribution patterns, which may lead to discrepancies.

Methodological differences, such as calculation standards and data sources, further complicate comparisons. Additionally, evolving standards and product updates can render older reports less accurate. As a result from these factors direct comparability of carbon footprints between different products can be challenging and should be approached carefully.

HP

Product carbon footprint results are highly dependent on the tools, carbon emissions data, and assumptions used. To provide the mostaccurate data, HP uses HP-specific tools, processes, and product data,as well as high-quality lifecycle assessment data. To increasetransparency, HP reports the PCF mean and uncertainty range. Sinceuncertainty will never be minimized completely, HP does notrecommend comparison of PCF estimates from differentmanufacturers.
